The Wichita SWE Festival of Trees theme for December 2012 is Lego^®. All year long, we will present a monthly Lego^® build on the SWE website at http://wichitaswe.org/news/?tag=lego-tree. These building directions are from the Lego^®website and are copyrighted.

If you have some spare Lego^® this is your chance to make an ornament for the tree. For May we are building numbers.

Legendary CFI Evelyn Bryan Johnson Dies

Paint the Towne meeting summary

On Sunday evening, May 6th, Wichita SWE held a social event at Paint the Towne. Professional members, along with some friends and family, were provided all of the supplies to create their own “masterpieces” for a nominal cost. Painters were given step-by-step instructions from Paint the Towne’s Jessie Sterling, so both the artistically-inclined and not-so-inclined could create something to be proud of. Attendees enjoyed a fun evening of painting, eating, drinking and socializing at the event.

AIAA Design Build Fly summary

Thanks to those who did help with the AIAA Design Build Fly event in April. The competition was the same weekend as the tornado that passed through south east Wichita. Because of the storm, the competition had to end early on Saturday and was not able to resume on Sunday. The teams were judged based off the two rounds of the flight competition that were completed as well as their report. Congratulations to the winning teams.

WSU Pizza Party Summary

At our annual end of the year party with WSU on April 23 we had a great time building Lego creations (they are ornaments for our Lego themed tree this year), eating pizza, and having great discussions between the students and the professionals! There were no graduating seniors, but one lucky student one a drawing for a C2C membership!

Orpheum Tour Summary

On April 19, SWE members and guests enjoyed a behind the scenes look at the Orpheum Theater. Orpheum President, Jennifer Wright taught us about the history of the theater during its heyday. We also saw plans for the ongoing renovations. This theater will look amazing when all the restorations are finished! A special treat was going up 5 stories to the projector room and seeing the Excelite projectors with carbon-arc lamps.
