Friday, June 3rd, 2011We’ve had a facebook page for a while, but recently we earned enough “likes” to get an easy-to-remember shortcut URL of our very own. You can now access our facebook page quickly & easily at facebook.com/wichitaswe.
If you hit “like” on our page, Wichita SWE news postings will show up in your facebook newsfeed along with whatever your friends & family are talking about. You can share news easily with your facebook friends and get event invites over facebook. We love it when people interact with us on facebook by sharing or commenting on news.
Thanks to everyone who helped promote our page to get us enough “likes” for our own address!

Last month, Kim Burton lead a presentation to section leaders about social media tools. We learned about what our section is doing in different web communities:
Twitter is a microblogging site where members post news in short (140 character) sentences. Our twitter is @wichitaswe. You can “follow” us for news and updates.
LinkedIn is a networking site for business contacts. Your “contacts” are made up of coworkers and former colleagues. To connect easily with other SWE members, join our LinkedIn group.
Facebook is a networking site where your “friends” include neighbors, family members, and people you hang out with. You can pass on invitations to SWE events if you Like our Facebook Page.
Finally, we reviewed wordpress as it’s installed on our server and learned to upload photos and post to the blog.

If you log into Facebook on a regular basis, there’s now an easy way to keep tabs on what’s going on with the Wichita section of SWE: become a fan. Updates to our section blog will automatically show up on your news feed, like your friends’ status updates. You’ll also be able to keep track of upcoming events and important section announcements.
