The completed airplanes

SWE members again participated in the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) annual Block Kids event on Saturday February 5, 2011. 115 kids were given 100 Legos^©, a piece of string, a rock, and a square of aluminum foil with which to create a construction.  After the allotted time, the creations were judged and winners chosen.  As each child finished being judged, they were sent to the activity rooms.  In one, they were able to pick up candy with an RC Bobcat, hammer nails, and use electric drills.  Wichita SWE ran the second activity room.  We assisted them in building and flying really nice foam airplanes.  The airplanes were graciously donated by Spirit AeroSystems. We couldn’t do half our outreach activities without the support of our great sponsors.
