WSU Open House Judging Summary
Tuesday, May 15th, 2012On Friday, May 4th Wichita SWE members judged projects presented by WSU College of Engineering Students at the WSU College of Engineering Open House. Wichita SWE judges were looking for a project and team with exceptional communication skills and the ability to explain their project to someone who might not be an engineer. The criteria for the SWE Excellence in Communication Award includes written communication, presentation & communication skills, creativity & innovation, project management skills, and having at least one female member on the team. Wichita SWE judges spent the day judging 74 projects and in the end decided on “AE 628 – Team AA.” Thank you to Lili Solorzano, Barb Davis, Julianne Alexander, and Allison Wright for the time you spent judging. Allison Wright presented the award to Team AA at the Awards banquet on the evening of Saturday, May 5th.
Three Wichita SWE members were in attendance to present awards for SWE or their companies.

Our professional section will be sponsoring and presenting an award at the Open House Awards Banquet on May 5th for one of these projects. AIAA Meeting – Innovation is No Vacation

Innovation is No Vacation

The presentation will be held on Friday, April 6, at 6:00 pm at Room 211 in Hubbard Hall on the WSU Campus
There is no charge, and no reservation is required
This seminar will present the perspective that innovation requires hard work and, most importantly, a stubborn persistence. Dr. Silva will share his personal experience with innovation and the lessons learned from those experiences. A general discussion of innovation is introduced including several examples of resistance to innovation throughout history. A discussion on the perspective that mentors (technical experts, professors) need to adopt in order to encourage and promote an innovative environment is discussed as well.

Career Services is looking for engineers and/or engineering recruiters to participate in this event and conduct practice interviews with students. WSU Career Services Volunteer Opportunities
Thursday, February 9th, 2012The Design of Networking for Engineers is March 13 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm in the lobby of the Engineering Research Laboratory. It is a special event for engineering students and employers to meet and mingle. Students will arrive at 5:30, attend a short workshop on networking, and then meet and talk with Engineers and Engineering Recruiters from 6:00-7:00pm. Dress will be Business Casual. Career Services is looking for engineers and engineering recruiters to participate in this event and network with students.
