WHY: This conversation has been developed to provide working professionals the opportunity to understand the intricacies and nuance of privilege and to explore the ways that we benefit from it as a society. Throughout the conversation, participants will have the opportunity to examine and uncover privilege in their own lives and gain awareness and tools to use said privilege to support equity, equality and to benefit those that are around us.
A little about our speaker Shana Chivon Stephens
Shana Chivon is a multi-hyphenate change agent with a heart for progress and a desire to disrupt the status quo. She is a United States Air Force Veteran where she worked as a maintainer on the KC-135 Tanker at McConnell AFB in Wichita, Kansas.
Currently she works as an IT leader for a Wichita based private company and runs a successful consulting practice where she provides education, resources and training centered around racism, anti-blackness, privilege, feminism, the patriarchy, colonialism, homophobia, white supremacy, and many other things as it relates to the work of dismantling the oppressive power systems that are still very much at work today.
Shana Chivon is also an author, the founder of the Shana Chivon Social Justice Book Club and a creator on Patreon, where she provides discourse and resources for those that are ready to engage in the work and go from advocacy to ally-ship, and when needed, to accomplices in the fight for equality, equity and social progress for people of color.
