About the presentation:

If the current growth rate of women entering the engineering field continues, it will take 350 years to reach gender parity.

"Retaining Women in Engineering", co-written by Bob Stavig and his daughter Alyssa Stavig MD, approaches the problem of women leaving engineering from a systems-level perspective to change the way engineering is done and level the playing field between men and women. This book uses the six principles of Lean Development and draws from the learnings of the field of medicine, recognizing that access to a vast amount of written knowledge is an important part of a physician’s learning process. Using these principles, the book provides leaders with concrete strategies and methods to change the way engineering is done and learning occurs.

The book is available online at this link

Bob Stavig was a presenter at our 2024 WeLocal conference. With a background in mechanical engineering, his decades-long career has given him opportunities to use principles and methods of Lean Development across product programs, process development, manufacturing leadership, and now the science of building inclusive cultures in our industry.
